| Associate Professor Mike Bennett     Prince of Wales Clinical School - Department of SurgeryStatement of Interests:
The field of Hyperbaric Medicine is regarded with great suspicion by many medical graduates. This is due at least in part to both widespread ignorance of the effects of high doses of oxygen, and a poor clinical research base. In this regard, the appropriate collation, critical appraisal and meta-analysis of comparative clinical trials is of great interest. Work is underway with colleagues from the USA, UK and Germany to produce a systematic appraisal of the evidence-basis for the use of hyperbaric oxygenation. More...

| Professor Nicholas Buckley     Prince of Wales Clinical SchoolStatement of Interests: As part of the SACTRC collaboration I have helped developed a centre of clinical toxicology research excellence in Sri Lanka – largely funded by the NHMRC and Wellcome Trust International Collaborative Research Grant scheme. The main focus of this work is pesticide poisoning, although the collaboration began with trials on snake envenomation and oleander poisoning and continues to be active in researching these areas and in other community based public and mental health projects. | Dr Sian Hicks     Prince of Wales Clinical SchoolStatement of Interests:
Colorectal cancer is currently the most common cancer diagnosed in Australia and has the second highest incidence of cancer-related deaths. Our research group, the Colorectal Cancer Research Consortium, was established to develop and test better systems for the identification, integration and dissemination of clinically relevant information about colorectal cancers and to use this information as a basis to develop research that could be translated into clinical practice. Current project include: - Development of synoptic pathology reporting for colorectal cancer - Identification of data that is essential for the reporting of colorectal cancer by the Clincial Cancer Registry - Integration of mismatch repair deficiency testing (MMRD)into pathology reporting of colorectal cancer - Microsatellite instability in colorectal cancer as a prognostic indicator for metachronous cancers More...

| Associate Professor Bettina Meiser     Prince of Wales Clinical SchoolStatement of Interests:
An ongoing research program that incorporates both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies focuses on the psychological impact of genetic testing and counselling for adult-onset disorders, in particular cancer susceptibility; psychological adjustment of those at risk for adult-onset disorders; the design and evaluation of interventions in the genetic counselling setting, in particular decision aids as an innovative means of patient education; and the impact of prophylactic surgery in individuals at high risk for cancer. Another area of research is cultural aspects of cancer genetics. More...

| Dr Rema Oliver     Prince of Wales Clinical SchoolStatement of Interests: Dr Rema Oliver, a full-time research fellow at the Surgical & Orthopaedic Research Laboratories, has for the past 9 years been investigating the biological process which occurs during fracture repair of both pathological (osteoporosis) and arthroplastic-induced foreign body reactions. Current research focuses upon the physiological consequences of osteoporosis especially in post-menopausal women. This work is carried out in collaboration with orthopaedic surgeons at the Prince of Wales Hospital. More...

| Dr Adrienne Torda     Prince of Wales Clinical SchoolStatement of Interests:
There are two main areas of interest. One is in clinical infectious diseases and the other is clinical ethics. Often these two intersect. The current research projects involve clinical pathways in relation to diabetic foot infections, vaccinations in bone marrow transplant recipients and clinical ethics - particularly looking at consent. | Professor Robyn Ward     Prince of Wales Clinical SchoolStatement of Interests:
In the field of hereditary cancer, the impact of germline epimutations as a cause of cancer is a main field of study. This work represents a substantive change in our understanding of colorectal cancer predisposition, and is of clinical relevance. In the clinical field research studies involve interventional and observational studies of targeted therapies for cancer. In health policy, the research activities revolve around developing cost effective models for the use of cancer medicines in our community. More...
