P3: Emergency / Selective
Refer to eMed for Placements and Tutorial Times.
All students undertake an attachment to the Emergency Department. This is often a busy and confronting environment, but your experience as students in the ED is critical to your development as doctors. You will learn to recognise the clinical features of acute presentations, gain an understanding of the underlying pathophysiological processes and become familiar with the management of patients with common acute and life threatening problems.
Learning is based primarily on your clinical experiences and is supported by a tutorial program. Assessment will include satisfactory completion of the generic learning plan and observed patient assessments.
Students allocated to the Emergency term will be allocated in either the first four weeks and then do a Selective term, or do a Selective term in the first four weeks then the Emergency term.
