Director Welcome

Welcome Students and Clinical Teachers!
2016 marked a proud 52 year partnership between UNSW and the Prince of Wales Hospital delivering excellent clinical education to medical students. In your time with us you will be supported by dedicated clinicians who are doctors both senior and junior, nurses and allied health staff.

The Clinical School and Hospital have a thriving culture of learning and research. Regardless of your rotation, I would encourage you to attend our flagship teaching meetings including Medical Grand Rounds. The Grand Rounds will keep you up to date and are a regular 'must see', whether you are a student or professor.

We are fortunate to have a beautiful Education Precinct in the historic Edmund Blacket Building (EBB c1860). Major restoration work of the extensive verandah is currently underway, and will provide additional space for relaxing or having tutorials outdoors when completed. There you will find the Clinical School, Hospital Library, EBB Lecture Theatre, the Glenn McEnallay Simulation and Learning Centre (Map) and the Nursing Education and Research Unit.

The Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU) is located at Level 1 in the North Wing next to the Hospital Library.  This includes a large tutorial room, meeting rooms and a clinical skills room, and staff offices.
This website is designed to help students access all they need while in order to make the most of the clinical teaching program at POWCS. It is also useful for conjoint clinical teachers who may want an insight into where their activities fit into a student’s journey. Hospital teaching is summarised in the timeline segmenting years 1 to 6 with useful links relevant to each stage. Students and teachers will be able to check on group allocation, term dates and rotations. Guidelines for clinical examinations will also be posted on the website.

In 2017 we will be continuing to help students get oriented to the different clinical environments and allow Hospital Departments to better see exactly what is expected of students during their attachments via our Departmental Profiles on the school website.

On behalf of the Clinical School, I hope you have an enjoyable and productive time here.

Best wishes,
Dr Arvin Damodaran
